The Language of Vibrations
Interactive sound installation
Location: home living room, Farnham, UK
Date: 11/2020
We know, scientifically, that everything in existence is made of vibrating, pulsing energy. All atoms are 99% fluctuations of energy in space: “It’s always energy in motion within the emptiness of space” (Connie Habash). Attuning to these vibrations is a way for us to connect and understand the universe. We all have the ability to learn the “language of vibrations”, we just need to tune our awareness to it, and it will reveal itself.
“The Language of Vibrations” is a first attempt to visualize the ongoing exchange of vibrations that exists between humans and plants.
The installation is composed of a leaf structure, connected to a speaker, and a light bulb. The sound, which is a mixture of recordings of the inside noises produced by trees, provokes the leaves to vibrate, and their movement is then projected across the room through the light. The vibrating shadows on the walls though aren’t just the result of the soundwaves, indeed they are influenced by the presence and movement of the people present in the space, therefore indirectly cooperating at the creation of the piece.
